BlackBerry has signed a five-year contract with the Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn who among other things also produces a range of Apple products.
The two companies will work together to make a new phone with the launch early in 2014, primarily focusing on Indonesia and other growing markets.
The news came the same day as the BlackBerry reported that they had sold just 1.9 million smartphones last quarter, compared with 3.7 million the quarter before. At the same time having BlackBerry canceled their annual BlackBerry Live Conference, an event that would otherwise have been in existence for 12 years.

New year, new goals

Director John Chen tells that “the partnership with Foxconn enables us to focus on what we do best-iconic design, world-class security and software development.”
He also made it clear that the BlackBerry has committed itself to the hardware vendor in the long term, despite the company’s downward curves. From here we can only hope that the agreement with Foxconn will be enough to turn things around.
