The Ribeirão Preto cycling team (São Francisco Saúde / Biosev / SME) maintained the tradition and won two medals for Ribeirão Preto at the Indoor Indoor Games, which are being held in Bauru. The results happened on Friday (21) and Saturday (22) in the points and resistance tests.
The first medal of Ribeirão in the modality was conquered by Rodrigo of the Nascimento.He took the podium in second place in the points race. The victory was of Renato Seabra, of the city of Marília. Third was Otávio Bulgarelli, from São José dos Campos.
The next day, it was Maurício Knapp’s turn to secure the bronze for Ribeirão. He rose to the podium in the endurance race with winner André Souza of São José and vice Lauro Chamon of Santos.
“The medals show that when the tests are of our athletes’ characteristics, the results appear. Our team specializes in road races and therefore we are not favorites to the title since the Open have proof of all the modalities of cycling like BMX, Mountain Bike and Speed. Even so, we are happy to keep the tradition and win medals for Ribeirão in this important competition,”said Marcelo Donnabella, coach of the Ribeiro team.
The medals placed Ribeirão Preto in the fourth overall position of the competition with 18.5 points conquered. After five days of disputes, São José dos Campos leads with 51 points and has already secured the title in advance. Rio Claro, with 33 points, and Santos with 28.5, come next in the classification of cycling.
This Monday (24), the cycling competitions are closed with BMX, category where Ribeirão Preto will not have representative.
