culminate to 365 m of altitude. The eastern and southern part of the state is
occupied by the Atlantic coastal plain. The flat, swampy coast is cut by deep
estuaries. The main rivers are Savannah, Altamaha, Satilla and Ogeechee. The

the southern heroes Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis are
sculpted; Savannah, one of the oldest cities in the United States; Ocmulgee
National Monument, with its old villages and its Indian tumulus; Fort Frederica
Citizen Monument, on the island of Santo Simons, built in the eighteenth century
by the British.
