Previously dominated by the traditional tobacco culture, the North Carolina
economy has diversified over the twentieth century. Mineral resources are
limited, but hydroelectric energy is abundant. Agriculture and forestry remained
important sectors of the economy. Caroline do Norte is the first national
tobacco producer and the third producer of peanuts (peanuts). The other
agricultural resources are varied: cotton, corn, livestock (poultry, cattle,
pigs), soy, fruits (apples, fisheries), vegetables. Forestry and fishing
(shrimp, plaice) are active. The state today is heavily industrialized. Labor
industries dominate. Caroline do Norte places itself in the first national row
for the textile sector (clothing). The other industrial sectors are mechanical
engineering, agri-food, wood (paper, furniture), tobacco, rubber and
plastic. The tip industries (electronics, pharmaceuticals) focus on the Research
Triangle Park's technopôle. The local economy continued to rest on traditional

The textile industry today is seriously threatened by imports. Tourism is
very developed. The main tourist sites are the Great Smoky Mountains National
Park, the seaside sites of Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout, the historic sites
that commemorate the War of Independence (Moores Creek National Battlefield) and
the Secession War (Bentonville Battleground State Historic Site) as well as
numerous museums.

city has a textile and wood industry and several printing works.
