Long dominated by sugar plantations and military activities, the archipelago’s economy has diversified, particularly in favor of an important tourist sector.
However, agriculture remains an important activity; Hawaii is in fact the first national producer of pineapples and papayas, and ranks second for cane sugar. Other agricultural resources include coffee, vegetables and livestock (cattle, sheep). Local agriculture must also cope with a new situation – a reduction in the area of arable land and the amount of water available for irrigation – caused by the constant development of tourism.
The main industrial sectors are agri-food (sugar refineries, fruit juices, preserves), textile manufacturing, printing and traditional crafts. At the same time, high-tech industries are developing.
Tourism
Tourism is now the most important economic activity, bringing in more than 10 billion dollars a year, or more than 50 p. the 100 state income. The main sites are the tourist areas of Waikiki, on the island of Oahu, the national park of Hawaii volcanoes, on the island of Hawaii, and the national park of Haleakala, on Maui. The islands of Hawaii also protect an important American military base in the Pacific, with the Pearl Harbor naval base, near Honolulu.
Honolulu
Honolulu, city and capital of the state of Hawaii in the United States. It has about 387,000 residents, or about 911,000 if one counts the suburbs.
The city is located on the south coast of the island of Oahu and has a good harbor in addition to the naval base in Pearl Harbor. Honolulu is a transportation hub with an international airport and a lot of tourism. Waikiki Beach is located by the town.
Important industries include the canning and sugar industries. Honolulu has two universities and several colleges.
Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor, a US naval and air base on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. On December 7, 1941, he was attacked by Japanese planes and dwarf boats. This led to the United States joining the Second World War against the Axis powers.

Le Jardin Academy – Kailua / Oahu
The Le Jardin Academy is located on the island of Oahu in beautiful Hawaii and was founded in 1961. Over 800 students are currently attending the school, which is Hawaii’s first IB school and one of the top five private schools in the state of Hawaii. Inquisitive, active students are taught here and learn to develop their personal skills and talents. Community is very important here, everyone is treated like family and welcomed in a friendly way, quite typical for Hawaii.
The school offers the IB program. Pupils can take courses at a very high level and even get an international degree.
At IB level, subjects such as English, math, visual art, theater and music can be taken. Students are well prepared for colleges and universities and visit well-known universities such as Yale, Boston University, University of Toronto and even Heidelberg University.
A wide variety is offered to students in the areas of sport and art. These include kayaking or cross country in autumn, water polo in winter and golf or tennis in spring.
