  • Business Relationships

The European Union is still an important trading partner of Mali in its imports and one of the important ones in its exports with preferential treatment under the Economic Partnership Agreement between the West African States, CEDEAO/ECOWAS and WAEMU on the one hand, and the European Community and its member states on the other hand from 2014. Among the most important items of Czech exports to Mali are cotton fabrics, worn clothes, baby diapers. The Czech Republic, on the other hand, imports folk crafts and tropical fruits from Mali. An important Czech company operating in Mali since the 1990s is the company GET s.r.o., which provides comprehensive services in the field of geology, mine projection, surveying, the environment and related sectors. The issue of long-term provision of high-quality raw materials for the construction industry represents a serious, still unsolved problem in Mali.

  • Foreign direct investment

Provision of development funds and EU instruments EUR 3 billion has been allocated from EU funds for current development cooperation projects with Mali.   • FTAs ​​and Treaties

The contractual basis between the two states is the Agreement on Air Services between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Republic of Mali (11.10.1962), the Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Republic of Mali on Scientific and Technical Cooperation (1.3.1961) and the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Republic of Mali (1.3.1961).

  • Development Cooperation

Several smaller projects in agriculture and water management were also implemented in the past years. Worthy of mention are the projects “Evaluation of the raw material potential of building materials for the raw material support of the development of local infrastructure” implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic in 2008-2012, the MEDEVAC program of the Ministry of the Interior and ADRA in the Gourma Rharous area implemented in 2019, a project to support women and their position in the family and of Malian society implemented by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bamako in 2019 and several People in Need projects in the Kayes region, focused on food self-sufficiency. The Czech Republic also contributed 10 million to the multilateral organization IOM.

  • Prospective fields of study (MOP)

Textile industry, construction and hospital equipment. However, Mali has been burdened by CEDAO/ECOWAS sanctions since January 2022, and the approval of projects and cooperation is subject to the country’s military leadership, which has moved away from some traditional partners (primarily France) and increasingly deepens cooperation with Russia.
