Trade relations with the EU
Cooperation between the EU and Togo is successful thanks to the convergence of interests in the economic and security fields. Togo has made huge progress in improving the business environment, which is appreciated by the European side, especially taking into account the negative trend in other countries of the region. Togo is also a reliable partner in ensuring regional security. There is an economic and political dialogue between Togo and the EU. The priority areas of cooperation for the programming period 2021-2027 were identified as: multilateral cooperation, peace and security, economic partnership to support the employment of the young generation, good and inclusive governance and the fight against climate change. In the fight against extremism, Togo’s security forces received financial aid in the amount of EUR million. As part of the National Indicative Program for the years 2014-2020, 216 million was allocated from the EDF. EUR (46% for consolidation of state structures and security, 34% for water management and sanitation, 14% for energy and 6% for technical facilities).
