Traditionally dominated by agriculture, the state’s economy today rests on industry and services, namely tourism.
Mineral resources are limited (asbestos, talc, marble and careers) and most ore deposits (copper, tin and gold) are now depleted. Main agricultural resources come from breeding (cattle and poultry), forage plants, arboriculture (apples) and crops under greenhouses. Forest exploitation is important.
Industry
The main industrial sectors are electronics, industrial mechanics, wood-based industries (paper, construction wood, furniture industry), agri-food (dairy products and maple syrup), precision mechanics and equipment transport (airspace). Urbanization is very weak. Vermont has only four cities with over 10,000 inhabitants. Tourism is very active around Lake Champlain and over the Green Mountains. Ski resorts were arranged there. The main historic site is the Bennington Battle Monument, which commemorates the American victory over the British over Bennington in 1777.
