The history of Winona dates back to when it was founded as a settlement in 1846. During this time, it served as a trading post and stagecoach stop for travelers heading west on the old Jefferson-Marshall Road. In 1871, the town was officially incorporated and named after a local doctor’s daughter who had recently passed away.
